I do take the beta blocker metoprolol 12.5mg once a day I was curious if it could cause this. I do worry about my heart quite a bit I have had an EKG and a phsyical which turned out fine but that was last year. But about the nails. Is this color normal? Or what should I make of it , it is a bit worrying.

Thank you

Are you cold at all? I have a healthy heart (I've recently had tests), but poor circulation, and my nails are that color a lot of the time. Your color actually doesn't look that bad. If you are really concerned, ask your doctor, but if you've had a normal EKG and you've been generally healthy since then, you're probably fine. Do you suffer from anxiety? You sound a bit like me when I'm having a bit of a freak out about my health. I have anxiety/fear of death, or I had it. Don't worry unless you have some other major symptoms, like chest pain, faintness, shortness of breath, fatigue, pain in your arms, tingling in your extremities...etc.

huh they do look kinda red. i would at least call your doctor and ask him if he thinks you should come in and see him. it might be something like bad circulation which could be heart related. only a doctor can tell you though.

discuss your concerns with your doctor.

I can't really make out the exact color from your pictures because they're kind of blurry and the lighting isn't that great, but I noticed some of your nails are chipped and uneven.
I don't think this is a side effect of taking metoprolol unless you are noticing something else that is abnormal happening alongside nail discoloration and in that case, you should talk to your doctor.

Normal nail discoloration though -if you see that your nails have turned an unhealthy/weird yellow colour, or if they easily chip and are a 'fake' white color- could be the cause of smoking and/or malnutrition (specifically lack of calcium).

metoprolol is a beta blocker it lowers your heart rate and your blood pressure. You are on a very small dose. and only once a day not that impressive. Cannot tell if your fingers are more blue or pink. Do you take amiodarone? Do or have you had any heart condition?

You may have a circulation problem. It is important to also look at is there anything associated with it cold?, Do you smoke? Your nails look a little thin chipped- do you have poor nutrition? Do you have family members with heart problems? what kind? EKG is only a partial picture of the electrical activity of your heart. There are many other studies and it could be a problem with your lungs. Do you have anything else that is a problem with the nails?

As others have said, the pictures aren't very good. I can't tell if you are worried because the nails are a pale pink?

The nail beds (skin underneath the fingernails) are very vascular (like your gums and the inside of your eyelids). When you are cold, the blood vessels constrict (become smaller) and so less blood flow moves through them, this is why they look paler pink instead of brighter pink. This is generally a temporary thing and warming the hands would return the nailbeds to a nice darker pink again.

If they are always pale (inspite of being warm) check with your doctor, anemia (low red blood cells) can also make the nailbeds pale as well as some other health concerns.

If you are seeing a different color (blueish or yellowish) that doesn't disappear with handwashing or warming them, see your doctor.
