ON this drug for Chrons disease? Infliximab?! WHAT?!?!

Question: My dad has severe chrons disease and has to come off prednisone, and start up on intravenous drugs every week :,(

Im really worried. The doctor is going to put him on Infliximab, a chimeric mouse-human monoclonal antibody to TNF and I have no idea what it is or anything! All I know is that it causes cancer and tuburculosis. Im really scared. I dont want my dad to die while im freaking 15. Has anyone heard of this drug?

Some people cannot tolerate chimeric antibodies. Your father's doctor will monitor the safety of Infliximab at first to be sure it is safe. Parts of the Infliximab molecule are copies of human antibodies, and parts are copies of mouse antibodies.
Steroids have many undesirable side effects, and therefore some gastroenterologists are now advocating for the use of infliximab as the first drug to try to get patients into remission.
Infliximab is probably safer than steroids, and also more effective. Cancer and TB are very rare side effects, and you should expect your father's health to improve on Infliximab. No drug is perfect; remember that.
