How can I soothe my eczema?!

Question: I believe I have eczema on my hand. I've tried hydrocortizone cream and it's not helping. Do I need to see a doctor? Is there anything I can do to soothe it... medicines or at home remedies? Thanks~

I use Dermarest Eczema Medicated Lotion and it works WONDERS! I have it on my hands, too. It's better than anything I was prescribed by a dermatologist.

I got it at Walgreens in the band-aid/ointment aisle. I also saw several other products there for eczema.

This stuff has hydrocortisone in it, but this also soothes and moisturizes for 24 hours.

Here's the website with product information on it: http://www.dermarest.com/eczema/

Good luck!

Edit -- You described the same thing that's on my hands, so it's most likely eczema. Eczema is defined as an itchy rash that can't be cured, basically. So as long as it's not something else specific, it's eczema.

this is really weird..haha..but i get my dog to lick it...only when its like unbearable..im not a freak or anything hahah

Go to your doctor to make sure it's eczema. I have it and have had it for the last 10 years...it's never irritated me, other than the fact it's darker than the rest of my skin.

Whatever you do, do not scratch it. My friend had it in a small spot and she itched it and it eventually spread. Now it's on her arms and legs. You need to go to a doctor and get a prescription to keep it from spreading ASAP.

My baby girl has had eczema on her face since birth and using .5% hydrocortisone helped her, but you said it hasn't helped you. Are you sure it's eczema? If so, do a LOT of moisturizing--with hypoallergenic, fragrance-free, rich creams or lotions. Eucerin or Aquaphor are excellent choices.

My friend suffered from eczema for years and swears by chinese herbal remedies ! This is a more natural apprach and will take longer to work then medicines that contain steroids (Most Eczema creams contain this) but the natural approach is always the best, go to a chinese herbal store in china town and you can pick some up, you have to soak the herbs and bark and stuff in hot water then strain the water through a sieve then drink the water every day !

Besides from the various creams (moisturixing/anti-itcH) i like oatmeal baths. Or actually the AVEENO brand oatmeal baths. They make me feels so better. I first used it when i had chicken pox and realized it made the eczema on my arms feel so much better.

Moisture, moisturize, moisturize! this is the way to beat dry skin. use an all natural skin care moisturizer, this can be safe and effective to protect the skin from moisture robbers like dry air, humidity and other factors that can cause skin damage.

there are many things simple things to do to have clear and healthy skin, one is to drink plenty of water, this can keep the skin hydrated, likewise, eat plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables.

have healthy habits and avoid bad habits such as smoking and too much alcohol drinking, this can make the skin dry. enough rest. sleep and good program of exercise can help make the skin look at its best.
