if it is herpes its most likely from your ex. herpes can lie dorant for a long time. u could have also had it for years and not have even known it. because herpes can lie dormant for a long time thats where it gets confusing. if this is your first outbreak however it is most likely from your ex bf. he could have been a carrier which means he could have had herpes as well and never even known it. go to the doctor first they can properly diagnosse u then wait for the test results to come back before doing anything.

go out with this dude I know named Josh

It sounds like your right. It is herpes. It doesn't always show up right away especially if it's a mild case. AND if you can't get to the Dr right away, wait until it happens again because he needs to see it to diagnose it.

First off you should get tested to make sure before you freak out. But if it turns out it is you should talk to you ex and let him know so he can practice safe sex.
It could have been hiding for months. I don't know about years?
However, if you had oral sex (let some one put their mouth on your vagina) and they had a sore in their mouth at the time...you can get it that way.

Take a couple pictures to show to the doctor. Try to find a different doctor because it can usually only be diagnosed during an outbreak. It can take months or years to show signs. It is possible that the carrier doesn't even know they have it. You can get it from skin to skin contact, even if the other person doesn't have an outbreak. Don't worry though, even if you do have herpes, there are a lot of treatments that you can go through, pills and stuff, that will make it so that you rarely, if ever get an outbreak again. Good luck!

sounds like herpes why dont you go to a walk in centre or something

WAYS?
skin to skin contact of any kind with some else's (or your own) herpes sore....
It lives on dry skin or objects for a short time....
then lives on your spine until triggered
and in wet areas it'll recurr over & over

So you can get it from a mouth or penis most likely...
but possibly from his hand if he just touched a sore

Example: I shared make-up (right after) with someone with a cold sore on her mouth....the virus lived on the eyeliner (she'd used as lip-liner!) long enough for me to have contracted herpes of the eye! and it recurrs on my eye - looks like pink eye about twice a year when I get stressed out or have too much sun exposure
