Is this normal for kidney stones?!

Question: I'm pretty sure I have a kidney stone. Ive had them before and I've been experincing sharp pain in my side occasionally for about a month. It started off very high and has gradually lowered into my groin, so I'm assuming it's moving.

I can't get a dr appt. until the end of the month-- but I have another annoying symptom. Even when I don't experience pain from the stone, I have a burning/weird sensation "down there". It feels like I have to go to the bathroom even when I dont. I'm VERY antsy, can't get comfortable.

I've felt this way before accompanied with the sharp pain, but now it's almost constant and it's driving me crazy. I don't have any STD's. Is this normal? What can I do?

Yes, it's normal. What you need to do is drink LOTS of liquids to try to get it moving. I was told by my endocrinologist to drink water with lemon juice in it several times a day. Some of the acids in the lemon juice have been found to actually help break-up/reduce the size of the stones, so they are easier to pass. I must say that it actually works ! I still drink at least one glass a day of lemon water at day to keep the stones at bay ( you could do lemonaid, but, you needto look at the ingrediants to make sure it's made with real lemons & not just flavored)

One way of preventing kidney stones is to limit calcium in your diet. Also drink plenty of fluid - especially cranberry juice as it fights bladder infections. You might have a small infection at the moment (it could also be a yeast infection, like thrush). Your doctor can prescribe a diuretic which will help wash out the small stones.

You might have a kidney stone or it could be cystitis which is common when you have a constant urge to go to the bathroom. try drinking cranberry juice as it reduces the acidity in urine and therfore reduces the pain on voiding. either way drink plenty of fluids to clear out your urinary tract. feel better soon

I to suffer with kidney stones and I feel your pain. It sounds like you have a stone that is stuck in your urinary track and have an infection from the scraping. I drank lots of cranberry juice's. You need to find out what type of stones you have. If you had one analysis's the last time you passed it your records will still be available. Some types of stones can be dissolved with a pill ( potassium citrate) this didn't work for me because of the type i have, I hope you have health insurance, I made several trips to the emergency room waiting for my doctors appointment come and it cost me thousands of dollars. I ended up having them blasted with a laser and now I owe the price of a small house in medical bills. Today I take a natural supplement that is for prostate problems, not that I have a problem but it keeps my flow strong and open also has potassium citrate in ingredients.( preventive maintenance)

If you're about to pass a stone, your doctor may ask you to urinate through a strainer so that the stone can be recovered and analyzed. It's important to find out what type of kidney stone you have and why it developed. Some of the underlying causes of kidney stones can be treated to prevent new stones from forming. Painful as they are, kidney stones usually cause no permanent damage. Medical intervention
