When will she wake up after a heart attack?!

Question: My mom had a heart attack without any warning 9 days ago, since then the doctors have told us her brain is fine after doing EEG'S and CT Scans, no swelling or damage. Her heart is fine after putting 3 stints in, and all her other organs are healthy. Yet she still hasn't woken up. She was given ativan injections, the nurse told us about every 3 hours and now shes on propofon. She reacts to light and sound, moves her hands, feet and head. She coughs and opens her eyes but hasn't woken up. Is it the sedatives keeping her unconscience or something else. Thanks for any help.

This Patient Guide is written for the loved ones of heart patients who are dealing with the short-term stress that comes with a test, procedure or recent diagnosis of heart disease. It explains why support is so important to a loved one with heart disease. It also offers practical strategies on how to support a loved one while also taking care of yourself.

I don't know if she will but she will be in my prayers.

I would say maybe the sedatives are still in her system. Ativan every 3 hours huh? Sounds like a bit. Ativan is usally given to uncontrollable and confused patients. I would talk with the doc and find out what type of sedatives she's being given and request that they be stopped. Unless the doc feels there's a need for them?

your doctor should answer this

Aww I am sorry to hear about your mom...I hope she is feeling better soon..
to answer your question though...
My dad had a heart attack a few years ago..and he was awake the whole time..
I am not sure why your mom would still be sleeping.

The Dr's. are all there to answer any questions you may have. If her brain is fine..then I am sure she will be fine...
It could be sedatives..but why would they keep giving her those?
Please ask the Dr.
I really do hope everything turns out fine...
keep the faith.
*hugs*
