Can you get sick from worrying too much?!?!

Question: On march 1st my friend (who had mono around christmastime) took a sip from my vitamin water, and i had a sip afterward. For the past week and a half, i constantly worried about getting mono. like i was about to go crazy ( i'm going on a trip in a week and i didn't wanna have mono during that time ) anyway, now i'm sick, i have a small sore throat, it dosn't hurt that much when i swallow, and i had a headache today, and i'm a little tired. however, no fever, and my throat has gone from red to normal, so do you think i got sick from worrying and stress? ( i also had a TON of work to do last week that stressed me out SO much) or do you think i'm coming down with something? i know your not all doctors, but has anyone experienced this or know whats going on??? (I have also been excersizing a lot more than normal the last couple of weeks)

Pleeeeeease help, no one ever answers my questions, and this is something i actually want to know the answer to. THANKS! :))

Hi there. You are probably only stressed. With all the things you said to me about the above symptoms, it sounds like nothing more than stress. Since you friend has mono however, it is a good idea to get it checked out. Mono untreated can make you very ill. If you have mono you can easily treat it with antibiotics. If you don't want your mom to know for some reason, you can just tell her that you have been feeling really tired and think you should see the doctor. I am sure if you are a teenager, you will find a way to act surprised about getting it. Do not worry yourself oh anxious one, life is a gift and every day you should find something positive to think about. You cannot worry yourself into sickness unless you you are a normally worried type personality. Even then, it will not be serious. Just take it easy and learn to handle stress and worry in a positive way because that type of over anxious worry can hurt your health if it continues for a long time. Watch Joyce Meyer's program I think it is called Everyday living or something like that. It is not boring and it will really make you feel better. You will be fine. Now go to the doctor and have it checked out just to make sure for your own peace of mind, that it is not mono. P.S. Don't wear other peoples hats or eat or drink after someone else. Good luck!!

stress can make you ill, when you get stressed your body goes into fight or flight mode, your stomach shuts down (hence the butterflies you get sometime when you are nervous) and the immune system takes a battering if under constant stress. stress results in the release of a hormone called cortisol which in the long term leads to athleroslerosis,
and a heart attack, although we are talking about years worth of stress, not a week or two.
