Heart failure? Details...?!

Question: My deasrest friend: 64 year old female. Type 2 diabetes for 20 years. No exercise (but always *on the go*). Non smoker for life. Has eaten extremely healthy for 3.5 years prior (fruits, veggies, whole grains, fish, no fat or sugar, no alcohol ever, etc). Um, what else, oh double hip replacement about 15 years ago.

Recently suffered massive heart attack. Doctor says she has 90% blockage in 3 arteries. Second Dr. concurs with diagnosis. Both say they won't operate because she won't survive the anesthesia.

What are her chances? I'm clueless in this matter. I just don't want my friend to die. Help.

I hate to say, but if there is that much blockage, and, given her age, the docs are doing what is best for her. It would be too risky for everyone. Heart failure is different from a heart attack. I know, I've had 2 heart failures. A heart attack is altogether different, wherein the arteries are clogged with cholesterol, fat, and are narrowed to the point where blood can no longer flow to the heart properly. A heart attack can also be the result of other things, but the clogged arteries are a common cause. When there is a chance the arteries can be removed and replaced with one from the leg, that is an option, but if 3 of her arteries are that bad, I really, really, hate to say anything other than you may want to do what you can for her while she is in this situation. May God help you and place her in His care. I will pray for all.

dearest snotface, i just don't know when to take you seriously anymore,...
Why won't she survive the anesthesia? Can't they do that angio balloon thing, with only local? I am really clueless, but I hope she isn't feeling too badly physically, that sucks, I'm sorry
She should get a third opinion

your great sense of humor is an asset during difficult times

I feel your pain. My father is in the hospital at this moment suffering from heart problems. He's in critical conditions. I'll pray for you.

gosh snotty i don't have an answer but i'll star you hoping one of my contacts will

Appropriate treatment for this 90% 3 arteries is coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG). However her risk of dying at the operation table is very high because of the recent myocardial infarction and definitely anesthetist will not deem her as a candidate for surgery. Usually they would wait a period of 6 months before these risks lower.

Meanwhile her management is mainly medical therapy to optimise all cardiac variable until the surgery. Hope for the best

Geez Snot I just happened to read this I am so sorry and wish I could help you with a brilliant answer. I've two friends that have had heart attacks and its such a helpless feeling. Perhaps with treatment the risk will be less and operation will be successful. I truly believe in karma and if she is as wonderful as she sounds all the right things will be on her side=:>)
Cyber hugs demon clown.

DON'T WORRY, BE HAPPY''

I hurt for you. Hopefully there is a solution that another Dr. can come up with. Prayer always helps. Treasure every moment you have with her. Never give up.
