Can Aids Be Transmitted This Way?!

Question: I have a neighbor that has Aids. She came over earlier today and she was on her period. When she started to leave she realized that she had bled through onto the cover of my sofa.I took the cover off but I'm a little paranoid. Can the virus be transmitted to me,my husband,or my 6 month old son like that? I have the cover sprayed with everything I could find in my house that wouldn't fade the color and its going into the wash but is that enough? I thought that once the virus hit the air it was dead.Is it true? Someone please let me know before I go crazy worrying.

No, don't worry about it that much, there's no way that you can catch HIV/AIDS like this.
Generally, as soon as the virus hits the air, it dies off. It can't live unless it's hosted by a body.
To get AIDS from contact, you either need to a) have sex with an infected person or b) press your open wound directly onto an infected person's open wound (which still doesn't guarantee that you'll get the virus...)

It's hard to transmit, believe it or not. Unless you've got firm wound to wound contact, it won't live long enough for it to get in your system. The virus that had been on your cover is most DEFINETLY dead by now = )

Hope I helped! Don't sweat it =P

you took the cover off right away right?

unless someone else who had an open sore touched it, your family will be fine.
the first answer was very much right.

AIDS can't be transmitted at all. AIDS is a syndrome that develops from being infected with the HIV.

The first answer is right on. You don't have a worry and you're right on also. That girl needs to hit google.

Now, what a great person you sound like. Your neighbor is lucky in deed to have you as a friend.

wow I can see where this would bother you. I'm afraid in the same situation I would probably have reacted the same way that you did. I don't think that you over reacted just reacted the way that most mothers would. You worried about protecting your child and wanted to make sure that you had done enough to protect them.

What an inconsiderate woman! SHE KNOWS how dangerous her body fluids are! Spit, sperm, urine, feces and blood all carry AIDS from an infected person. You need to find out all you can on line, by going to GOOGLE.

The best answer is to call your family doctor, to get an honest answer, ASAP.
