yes is does, the general indications for all members of the tetracycline antibiotics group, Doxycycline is frequently used to treat chronic prostatitis, sinusitis, pelvic inflammatory disease, acne and rosacea. In addition it is used in the treatment and prophylaxis of Bacillus anthracis (anthrax) and in prophylaxis against malaria.

Doxycycline is not approved for use in children under the age of 8 years

amoxicillin is the antibiotic of choice for upper respiratory infections and doxycycline is not effective in this condition.

Doxycycline is from the family of Tetracycline. They are broad-spectrum drugs - meaning they can cure a variety of diseases. Sinusitis - usually caused by Streptococcus can be cured by Doxycycline because Streptococcus is gram positive and Doxycycline can inhibit gram positive to gram negative bacteria.

depends on their ages. doxy is not recommended for kids under a certain age. amoxil is used in younger kids because of their age and the fact that they have not developed a resistance to antibiotics. their systems are more fragile and need an easy to metabolize anitibiotic. amoxicillin is the recommended drug for respiratory and sinus infections in small or young kids. doxy is a broad spectrum antibiotic that helps reduce the antibodies ability to develop a resistance in older kids and is easier than most antibiotics to metabolize. it is used for numerous infections, from respiratory to clymidia to cholera to tick fevers. we use doxy all the time for respiratory infections and if you read the literature that comes with it, it will tell you along with the recommendation from the AMA. the difference in antibiotics for each kid is mostly due to age and the bodies ability to handle and metabolize that specific drug. and kids under the age of 6 can have side effects like grey teeth from the doxy anitibotic. amoxicillin doesn't have as many side effects but may take a little longer to work.
