My mother has COPD. What now?!

Question: Recently my mother was diagnosed with COPD. She told me it was minor and there was nothing to worry about. But the more I read about it, I get scared. It's progressive and uncurable even if she quits smoking. She's cut back on smoking a lot since the diagnosis, but I don't think she's going to quit. I'm trying to quit as well so I can better help her do it, but she doesn't seem to be trying very hard.
Anyway, my question is, are my fears as bad as they seem? Am I going to watch her die a slow painful death? How does one deal with something like that? I don't know if I'm prepared to go through that. My mother is 53, and has Diabetes as well. I just want her comfortably as long as possible. What should I be prepared for and how do I help her?

unfortunately there is nothing you can do. support her, hound her to quite smoking it will prolong her life and make it easier that is about all you can do. most important love her and spent time with her sometimes this can get worse with out reason and quickly. with todays medication and medical staff (i am a paramedic) she will not be in pain and she should not suffer. she might out live you. just be ever patient. however get a living will and a durable power of attorney so in the end her care can be determined be her and her loved ones not the hospital er docs that what to practice on people.

chronic obstructive pulmonary disease about which your talking ,usually the obstruction is caused by the flum collected if only you surceased in removing the flums, the disease is suppressed, if not, it leads to complication.the smoking in general has the prime effect on the lungs in the process of organizing the COPD continued to smoke with disease would have aggravated the present condition.it is all a big imagination when treatment is prov aided to con troll the infection and suck out collected flums will good result and relief
