i would recommend the big teddy bear. with tumors in her eyes, her vision may not be the greatest after a while. tumors near the eyes can suppress vision, causing occasional blindness. a teddy bear that is big and soft she can hold and feel and that usually offers more comfort than some other objects.

i would also get some form of music same thing with how her vision may not be that great, she will still have an ear that is perfectly fine so she can still hear music. even those stories that are recorded on a CD or tape could be interesting.

i wouldn't say it is rude to walk in empty handed, but i think as a child they are more brave and easier to cheer up when they receive "gifts." i know as a little girl, even something small like flowers could brighten her day.

Giver her a teddy bear, some kind of candy (if the docs will allow it) and a scented flower. Let her use the scences that she has left. Touch, taste, smell.

Just do something to make her know she's loved.

p.s. and don't forget to give her a GIGAINTIC hug! ^__^

You should get her a large stuffed penguin doll to represent that she will be able to endure the worst elements and still come out on top. And plus, no one can resist the love of a penguin doll.

She is 6 yrs old you say? wow, this is pretty sad to hear. I think if you were to go and visit her, she would enjoy a stuffed animal, or some type of doll. She is 6 yrs old, it doesn't matter how much something costs to her. Just keep it simple and she will like it!! I hope everything works out for you.

A soft, furry teddy bear with ballerina clothes on:)

Crayons and coloring book

V-smile with games

A portable DVD player thingie (she will be going to the doctor a lot and this will give her something to do)

A CD player with happy, upbeat songs.

She is still a child.........just one with a serious illness.

Take your sister some Cosmo or other mindless books and Chocolate.

Blessings and prayers.

I'm so sorry to hear this and i hope she gets better.

You should get her something that has textures on it like a stuffed animal. When i was young i had a stuffed animal puppy that had a lot of ruffles and stuff, then maybe you should get her some really nice kid music or something. let her use her senses. i'm not sure if this helped but i tried.

Books about surviving cacer

Anything soft, fuzzy, and cuddly.

You and your niece will be in my prayers. Best of luck!

I agree, a stuffed animal is a great gift. I would get a nice soft kitty. All the little girls in my life are crazy for cats! Candy is not good for cancer patients, sugar should be avoided. Books about princesses is another big hit. You could also find little girl nail polish and lip gloss, this would definitely get you the "Best Aunt" award! I will pray for her full recovery.

Take her a jar of some BIG, really cute assorted beads and a kit to make a necklace. Tell her to make a "progress" necklace with them.....with every test she has done, with every treatment, with every MRI or CT scan, with each blood work, etc., one bead gets added to her necklace. She will be able to associate each pattern of the bead with everything that happens to her in the hospital....something she can connect with and feel like she's part of the program.
I did this with my friend's granddaughter and she loved it and carried it everywhere with her. She would show people and bead by bead explain everything they were doing with her. She was extremely proud of it.
Just select age appropriate beads and for tests that she's having regularly, get a few duplicate beads so that one pattern signifies a specific thing for her.
