Is it possible to be surround by TB and not get infected?!

Question: My mom said she contracted TB as a child but in was inactive until her adult years when it started to grow. When I was little my step dad had it real bad and my best friend got it from him. I was tested every month when I was little until everyone was treated for it. Now I went to the dr and my skin test showed a reaction to the Tuberculin or PPD. (when she first did the test a bump showed on my wrist...far away from where the skin test was done) they said it was an allergic reaction. They did a chest x-ray and it was clean. I'm I just lucky or should I still keep an eye on this?

Some people test positive but don't have it. Some people are carriers and don't have it. It is airborne spread by tiny droplets from the nose, mouth, lung or lymph fluid so I think when its in the family I'd be getting it checked regularly. They should have told you when you had your x-ray and your last TB test how often you should be getting it done but usually about once a year.
Any person with a documented history of a positive skin test should not be tested. TB skin testing can be done for persons who have been vaccinated with BCG.

Definitley keep an eye on it. Because the bacteria that causes TB is airborne it can be contracted from anywhere, and spread that way as well. Also many times TB does not show any symptoms which is why it is tough to regulate, especially in schools and other public places. Good Luck
