Answers: your liver will fail then you will most likely die. it needs to be treated.

Liver failure followed by death.

well, a lot depends on lifestyle, but eventually those who opt not to treat hcv will have a decline in health. one day a person can "feel fine", the next they have liver or kidney failure, heart failure, cancers of intestine, skin...the liver.
hcv is often thought of to heppers as an autoimmune disorder because our bodies natural interferon cannot keep up with the changing of the virons.
chronic diseases of any kind can cause all sorts of symptoms, diseases and organ damage.
hcv only needs the liver to reproduce, causing liver damage yes, but it also causes other organs to overload, weakening them to a point of succeptability to disease.

i do not understand why one wishes not even to TRY antiviral chemotherapy for a possible sustained response (cure). i do realize that not everyone is a canadate for treatment, but those who are should not wait.

imagine an 8 year old acquiring hcv via jetshot gun vaccine program in the 70's. first symptoms begin within a year (a strange rash decades later has a name). by 13 seeing a psychologist, bones and joints hurting. by 17 sleeping in class, after work and right up until the alarm went off 9 minutes before her bus stop. by 24 she is on antidepressants, no one understands her pain- mentally and physically. by 28 sleeping 18 hour days, literally taking 2 hours just to get out of bed to use the restroom, hair loss, a few other rashes, gastrointeritis, anxiety attacks.....the list is endless.

at age 34 she finally meets a doctor that was not willing to blame all symptoms on depression alone, she is finally sent to the right doctor, gets 100% understanding for the first time in her life, goes on treatment-which was successful.

she still has some issues that are evidently not reversable- attention disorder who cannot take meds for it. she can't keep a job (couldnt keep one prior). she no longer sleeps all day and night, can take care of her kids and family, animals and home.

*damage to brain is caused by hcv virons, antidepressant use over a long period of time along with liver damage and other toxicities the liver could not filter. why wait for something like that to happen or get worse????
