Son had pink eye, now I do what precautions besides handwashing can I take?!

Question: Basically to make sure this never happens to us again, I have pink eye in both eyes and my two year old son got over pink eye he had in one eye. We both have to take antibiotic drops for the eyes, I bought some medical gloves for use in administering our medications, some clorox anywhere spray to spray things he's constantly in contact with, and some purell for my hands should this be enough. Also, if he is a at home baby and not in daycare will he not contract this again unless he comes in contact with another child with it. How concerned do I need to be at this point? Too bad it's not like chicken pox not a likely chance he will never contract it again I am so miserable. Is it normal for the area around the eye ball like going toward the bottom eye lid to turn blood red like it's bleeding but not and how often should I wipe the **** from my eyes, is it the more I wipe the longer it takes to heal. Any advice thanks I am so paranoid that we will get it again.

First, they edited it because it is a derogatory term for Asians. You've obviously never seen the countless reruns of M*A*S*H.

You can, and likely will, pass this back and forth for a while. The incubation period and contagious period is lengthy. Since he is only two years old, you can bet he'll rub his bad eye, and then the uninfected eye. Besides frequent handwashing, you're very wise in buying the medical gloves, but are they the sterile type? I hope so. Also, make sure you discard the gloves and any Kleenex used in a small trash bag, and keep it tightly tied to prevent your son from getting into it and re-contaminating himself, Same for you; DO NOT touch discarded materials.

It sounds to me like you have taken some really good precautions. Pink eye can be viral or bacterial or he could've even gotten it because of an allergic reaction to something.

I hope the article below helps and I hope your eyes feel better!
