Question: tonsilitis at the moment, because i have and it's really painful.
just asking because i'm wondering if it's going round it is highly contagious loads of people where i live have had it (nottingham) is it a national thing or just in nottingham?

Nope,no tonsils.I used to get it all the time.Finally had an emergency op at 15 to have them taken out.I ended up with quinsy (not nice).
I feel for you cause not only does it hurt it limits you eating and swallowing which is bloody annoying.Good excuse for ice-cream though ;o)
Edit I'm in Northampton and it's been doing the rounds a few weeks ago round the primary schools here.

haven't got tonsillitis, but i do have a problem with my kitten licking my cheek!!!! OK, so now he's sitting on my head and eating my hair..... :o)

gargle hot/warm water with salt thrice a day for a week.
start drinking hot/warm water
try hot water+honey+lemon in mornings in empty stomach OR
try hot water+honey+ginger in mornings in empty stomach
if nothing helps
start taking Cod liver oil capsules
also chinese herbal medicine helps
Its definately going round the country as I know of several people who have it. Its normal for this time of year because of the fluctuations in the weather, one minute cold next minute mild so the spores are able to migrate. Also, lots of people this time of year are a little run down so make themselves more open to infection.
If it keeps recurring consider having them taken out, but to ease the pain, try drinking hot lemonade - i cant tell you why this used to work for me, but it did. I had my tonsils out aged 19 which is a bit late - but i havent had a bad sore throat since.
