Can low blood sugar make you angry?!

Question: I always notice my mood decreases as my hunger increases. Does this happen to anyone else or do you know if it can be related to a drop in blood sugar?

Absolutely. If my blood sugar level was low, I'd tear your throat out for asking me the time. (I don't mean that, of course, but it's something that I recognised in myself shortly after being diagnosed and starting insulin injections.) I remember well being asked if I'd got the time, when I was out shopping with my then girlfriend. I could have, literally, took this poor guy apart.

There are many physiological things happening when your blood sugar level is falling, one of which is your autonomic nervous system goes into overdrive in an attempt to prevent you from losing consciousness. (It informs your pancreas that your blood sugar level is falling, which then responds by releasing glucagon which, in turn, stimulates your liver to release some of it's stored glucose, in a process called gluconeogenesis.)

Actually, you mention mood change as your hunger increases. Personally, I find that if I'm hypoglycaemic [hypoglycemic] I could eat just about anything, and at such a rate that it'd make a pig sick.

I pray that you find the answers you're looking for, and that you find a way to better control your emotions.

Best of luck.

Yes, Irritability can be a symptom of low blood sugar (hypoglycemia). I find that it is more of a symptom of the other symptoms for me. I get hungry and shaky and dizzy so that just puts me in a bad mood.

Yes.

It's definitely possible, but I've found that for me, irritability is more a symptom of high blood sugar. Even in non-diabetics, though, this can easily happen if someone hasn't eaten in a long time, etc.

you get moody and irritable, i can attest to that, because when my sugar is low, i am a real ********* and i snap easily
so it's true it does make u angry
