My BP shot up to 189/101. How do I get it down quickly and should I be concern?!

Question: I have stage 2 hypertension. I'm on Diovan HCT and my BP is usually around 155/95. Last week it was hanging around 160/101. Today is shot up to 189/104. I'm not sure what I can do or what I should be doing today about it. Should I have a mild workout like I planned? Or, should I just try to relax? Profession input would be greatly appreciated.

That is quite high. You need to be careful as dropping it too low too quickly can cause vascular collapse and cause the opposite problem.

Cut down on your sodium intake. Do moderate exercise 3-5 times per week. Get lots of rest and avoid stressful situations as much as possible.

Call your physician or health care provider as they may want to alter the dose of your medication in order to keep your blood pressure within a normal range.

I'm a heart patient (not a professional by any means.) but I can relate (I've had all sorts of blood pressure problems..I used to be on medicine for it.) I'd just take it easy if I were you, because you don't want it to raise more by working out.

If you do decide to exercise though, do something light, like a short walk, that way you don't overdo it and potentially hurt yourself, it wouldn't be worth it.

Also, if you consume caffiene, you might want to cut back/stop. I barely have any caffeine now and I can feel the difference. However, when I have caffeine I can actually feel my blood pressure is higher.

Just calm down, you were properly worried when you first took your blood pressure because you were thinking that if it was high you would be in trouble. If you were nervous and you could feel your heart racing then you would get a higher blood pressure. When you take your blood pressure and it
