Dehydration + Flu?!

Question: I'm not exactly sure what's wrong with me.

I've been sick since last Sunday. It started out with a dry, slightly sore throat. Monday I went to school anyway because it was just like a slight cold at that point. By the end of the night it went downhill though.

Tuesday and Wednesday I stayed home sick because I was incredibly congested with lots of sinus pressure and I just outright felt cruddy (fever as well since Tuesday, but I don't know the exact temp. No thermometer). I went to school Thursday and Friday anyway because I had standardized tests and loads of makeup work. Friday though, about 11am, I noticed that my throat felt funny. The same way it felt when I was about to get strep throat a month ago. I went to the nurse and she found two small pus pockets in my throat and had my mom take me to the doctor (erm.. nurse practitioner of his). She didn't test me for anything. She just put me on 3000 mg amoxicilin a day and I've been religiously taking it because I'm paranoid.

Sounds like influenza or maybe even mono. You need to go to a different doctor. I can't believe they didn't do any tests on you! What kind of doctor is that...handing out antibiotics like they are candy without even doing any tests!!?? That is bull-crap. And people wonder why bacteria becomes resistant! Sorry for the rant :)

Anyway, amoxicillin does not help with the flu or mono. They are both caused by viruses. You need different treatment options. There is no quick-cure for viruses. There are just certain medications (like Tamaflu) you can take that will lessen the symptoms, it won't kill the virus. Your body needs to clear it on its own. It will take time. You are doing a great job on your own so far! YOU, yourself, did better than the doctor, er sorry, nurse practictioner!

I'm sorry you're feeling so crappy. :\

If you don't start feeling better soon, I would go and see a doctor again. Especially since it sounds like it is getting worse, and the antibiotics aren't helping very well. It could be something like mono, and it would probably benefit you greatly to go back to the doctor.

I hope you start feeling better soon. :]

looks like you did all it,,next the hosp. best wishes
