Can doctors be wrong and if so what was it...?!

Question: Ok my sister had a bad rash on her genital area after having sex with her ex bf... She went to the doctor and he told her she had genital herpes..He was very mean and nasty about it... She told me that he told her to stop having sex with different men and learn how to use a condom. And at first he didnt even know if it was herpes... he actually told her it looked like genital herpes...then he said he would have to take a culture and blood test... the blood test came back negative and the culture came back positive... He told her that the herpe virus dont usually show up in the blood so soon and she would have to wait a couple of months before it does show... So she waited 6 months then she went back to the doctors... but this time she went to a different doctor because she said that she didnt like the attitude of the other doctor... he gave her a blood test and it came back negative too.... She says she haven't had any rashes or outbreaks since the first visit..

this is pretty grey but I think she may have it from the culture. I'm sorry that the first dr was so mean, maybe he has it and is still mad at the person who gave it to him. But if she doesn't have any more outbreaks she maybe a carrier of it and that first outbreak could also be her last. Some people only get it once as an outbreak.

Also why doesn't she ask her ex if he has it? Then she'll know better what's going on. If he doesn't have it then she shouldn't worry but if he does then I'm thinking he gave her something to remember him by. Sucks but it can be manageable. Cultures are more accurate than blood tests on this disease because it lays dormant in your nervous system, not really in your blood stream. Google pictures of what an outbreak looks like and you'll get more of an understanding. But if that rash hurt and had open sores then i think it was herpes.

I hope this helped.

Well to answer the question first, yes, Doctors are humans. Humans are proned to have errors. Therefore it is entirely possible ( and not too uncommon) for a doctor's diagnoses to be wrong. Especially if he was having a bad day. So it is good to see different doctors. Now the scary thing is, is that even though she hasnt had an outbreak, it is still possible. I dont know how it works as far as blood goes, but a person can contract herpes and only breakout due to certain things, mainly stress. Hopefully it was only a rash, and next time, not to be mean, but protection should be the number one priority.

Yes. The doctor could be wrong.
Some doctors are very arrogant and they think that they God.
They think that they are always right.
However, they are humans, they could make mistakes too.
In this case, your sister seem to have minor bacteria infection.
It is common when people don't clean their genital properly with soap.

However, regular check up is still necessary for healthy life style. Just go to a better doctor.

I spent TWO YEARS being diagnosed wrong by that "visual test" - just looking at it
if I were your sister - i would switch Drs.... Even the health clinic is nicer about herpes and other STDs because they see it so often.
They will hand out condoms, even show her how to use them - and they will "mother you" a little - lecture a bit about how she MIGHT've prevented it. and how to prevent catching anything else in the future..but they're very professional and nice about it

She should change Drs....
A rash isn't typically herpes - herpes looks like a white cluster of blisters

It's very managable if that is what she's contracted - life isn't over! I've managed to snag a couple great husands & have 4 beautiful kids with genital herpes!
