Diabetes & foot problems?!

Question: I am a 31 yr old Diabetic (Type 1-had it since I was 12), & I have had problems recently with my left foot. The toe next to the pinky toe is a bit red, sore & itchy, & it looks little purplish in one spot. Sometimes it goes back to normal, but then it comes back ,I noticed mostly when my blood sugars are high. I also have a sharp pain that happens when I press down on my heel, feels like a vein is about to burst, very painful. Could this be Diabetes related?

I'm a type 2 for 14 years now. A while back, I was having trouble with my left heal. It hurt me all the time, especially when I would get out of bed in the morning or after sitting for a little while. It was so tender and almost felt like it was bruised. This went on for a few years, I thought it was because I was on my feet a lot at work. Turned out to be a bad circulation thing. I started taking Plavix and a few days later my heal stopped hurting. About a month later I had to have stents put in because I had PAD. But my heal has not bothered me since I started the Plavix. Ask your doctor what he thinks.

Very definitely
Poor circulation in the feet and foot related problems are a very common side effect of diabetes.
Get your foot looked at - if if goes to far you could loss it.

Yes, it probably is, have you seen a doctor?

Your feet should be the most protected. It sounds like your circulation is not as it once was. See your doctor and in the meantime trying wear diabetic support socks. You can get them at your local pharmacy. I am a type 1 diabetic myself and I wear them.

It could be related to your diabetis, I also am a diabetic and when I went to a class on diabetis and I was taught to check the feet and toes, if you have more problems with it you should go see your doctor, and can get serious if you don't !
