18 year old Female Seeking Medical Help?!

Question: I am 18 years old and a female. I have stabbing pains all in my lower abdomen. I have had it for about a week now. I went to emergency at first and they felt tenderness on the right side, but found nothing. The pain is still there and is more severe on the right side. Anyone know what this could be, or if it will go away?!

Hello rightfully concern female. I am a license EMT ( Emergency Medical Tech). If the pain is still persistent you MUST get the right help. Go to your doctor TODAY and insist that a MRI be done to diagnose your problem and have your doctor refer you to a internal medicine specialist. If you have had a recent injury or illness be sure to report this to your doctor. DO NOT try to cover up the symptom with pain meds. Especially DO NOT take aspirin or other NSAIDs. Tylenol would be good for now. You could have GI problems and NSAIDs pain meds may make you bleed in to your GI track and be very serious.
Pain as unpleasant as it is is your friend telling you there is a problem. Go back to the ER or get in to your doctor with a "emergency appointment" . Do not take a one time visit to your ER as a answer. If the pain is still there or worse you have a medical need that needs fix fast as in today.

no go to the hospital again and ask them for pain killers. try a specialist if its really getting bad.

there isnt a specific answer to this it could be one or numerous things. i do think however that you should go back to the hospital.when you say lower abdomen do you mean around the ovaries? if so you might want to get that checked.

go to other hospital, it may be appendicitis.

it might be appendicities or urinary tract infection...

i had similar problems last year
i had stabbing pains in my left side
I did a number of things
1) seen my doctor who sent me to a specialist etc in the end i was prescibed medication which helped
2) went to see a naturopath who used change of diet etc

Both worked
but i felt alot more comforatble seeing the naturopath as she helped me change my eating habiits and gave me herbal tablets rather then having to take a pill for the rest of my life

Hope that helps

It could be gastritis, but you should call an advice nurse at the very least. Go back to the ER is you believe it's severe. Don't risk getting worse. If you don't want to go in, check out Web MD to see what it could be. http://www.webmd.com/

Use Webmd.com. There is a symptom checker where it links your symptoms to possible causes. List all of them and then check each of them with a doctor. Get more than one opinion.

The ER will be looking for swelling in the abdomen if its appendicitis, if there is none and they did a scan, then you can possibly rule that out. However a second opinion is ALWAYS recommended, cause they can miss things. Appendicitis is usually (but not always) accompanied by vomiting, and severe pain. Don't hesitate to get to the docs/hospital straight away if you are concerned, better to be wrong than dead.

Having said that it could be a UTI, ovary problem or perhaps irritable bowel which can feel tender to the touch. Either way, never settle until you find an answer. Good luck to you.
