How was Aids started?!

Some people believe it was a genetically engineered disease that was supposed to be used in wars, but some how got out of hand... I heard a lot of different stories about how aids got started but this is the one that i think is true...

I heard a long time ago when I was a kid, it started because someone had sex with a monkey. Monkey's had aids, but their bodies seemed to be able to be OK with that disease, where humans got sick & died from it. I don't know how true that is though....
