Depends on how bad your acne is? These two drugs are used topically (on the skin) to treat acne. There are side effects with any drug, and only very few are considered relatively safe. If you do not feel comfortable using Clindamycin, ask your doctor for another drug. Tetracycline is used for mild acne. Accutane is used for more severe. However, Accutane typically causes knee pain in some people. The pain goes away as soon as the drug is stopped.

Retin A Gel has been used successfully for years and is relatively safe for topical use, just stay out of the sun and wear sunscreen. However, Clindamycin Phosphate Lotion does have some potential serious side effects if you already have GI problems. If that were the case, your doctor would not prescribe it.

Orally and parenterally administered clindamycin has been associated with severe colitis which may result in patient death. I'm sure you read this and this is what you are concerned about. This is an extreme possibility, and only if as I stated above, you have GI problems already. Many things would take place first.

Use of the topical formulation of clindamycin results in absorption of the antibiotic from the skin surface. Diarrhea, bloody diarrhea, and colitis (including pseudomembranous colitis) have been reported with the use of topical and systemic clindamycin. If you do decide to use this drug, report any sign of blood in the stool, or dark tarry stools to your physician, and discontinue using Clindamycin.

Studies indicate a toxin(s) produced by clostridia is one primary cause of antibiotic-associated colitis. The colitis is usually characterized by severe persistent diarrhea and severe abdominal cramps and may be associated with the passage of blood and mucus. This is treated with antibiotics.

Acne is treated with antibiotics because it kills the staph bacteria that causes the inflammation, which reduces the flare ups. All drugs have side effects, it's up to you to decide if you are willing to tolerate them or not. If you do decide on a drug to use, be vigilant about the side effects and report them to your doctor.

Proactiv Solution works very well on acne and doesn't have the side effects of the oral antibiotics. You might give it a try.

Take care my friend.

All medication has possible side effects. You just have to decided what is more important, looking good on the outside or feeling good on the inside. Vanity is a bad thing.

Yes, I would. Every thing we use as a medicine seems to have the possibility of causing or promoting many side effects. Still, using Retin A and the lotion are used regularly on people. I have never seen a bad reaction, unless, you consider the dryness of the skin while helping the skin.

No, your doctor isn't trying kill you. But there are some serious side effects to the drugs he prescribed.

I have had adult acne my entire life and tried almost everything. I used Retin-A for a while and it started burning my skin, so I quit. Now, I wash with Neutrogena Acne Cleanser and apply Clindamycin once a day and my acne is finally under control.

The trick is to keep trying things until you find something that works. Use the medicine your doctor prescribed for a spell, and if it doesn't work or if it irritates your skin, stop using it and tell your doctor.

There are side effects to everything....usually they dint come out and say death. Usually its worded like "Can cause fatality." Id use it if I thought I needed it. Or just go get proactive.

"Primum non nocere" is a Latin phrase which translates as "first, do no harm" it is considered to be one of the fundamental principles of modern medical practice.

Whatever the doctor prescribes, it should be safe (unless you went to bogus doctors). in the first place, you asked the dermatologist a cure for your acne. you're just overreacting...

it happened to me before. i was given prescription for my acne. i have read several articles of side effects of the prescription over the internet and they had so many contradicting statements. it's for you to believe...

dont worry, nothing should happen to you. take it religiously.
just take the prescription as is...no more no less
