Gallstones after having your gall bladder removed?!

Question: I am having serious pain in my right upper abdominal area. I am not sure what could be causing this since I no longer have a gall bladder, it was removed over five years ago. However, this pain is so intense and severe that I would swear my right hand that it was still there. Does anyone have any ideas, advise or stories of the same issue? I appreciate all of your help. God knows I need it.

It is not gallstones if you had a cholecystectomy so rule that out. Your appendix ideally is supposed to cause pain in your lower right side but that pain can travel so you may check that out. Short of those ideas I have no advice for you except go see your doctor. If it is severe pain and does not subside in an hour or so you probably need to go to the ER. I just did the symptom checker on webmd.com and it says if you are experiencing severe pain in your upper abdomen you need to get immediate medical attention.

Possibly adhesions, possibly something unrelated. Better see a doc, pronto!

It's possible that it's related to the original surgery...maybe something came loose in there. A doc is the only one that can say for sure.

well, I had my gallbladder out in 1987. About five years after I had it out, I was in great pain in that area, it was like the stomach flu as well. Well, I went to the doctor, and she told me to not eat any fat at all. It did cure the problem, and about a year later, I was able to eat fats again... I did not cut out fat completely, but I kept it down to about 5 grams per day. Your body is having a hard time with the amount of fats you are consuming, and it cannot handle it anymore.

perhaps you should consult a doc it could be your liver...or even just gas...have it checked to be sure...also the gallbladder you had removed used to store the bile you needed to break down fats...its secreted into the duodenum. You dont have one anymore...your liver still produces bile but depending on how much fat youre eating at one sitting it may not be enough to break them down...hope this helps!
