Is adult onset of diabetes reversible?!

Question: I don't have it but am wondering if it goes away if someone eats less sugar.

Answers: I don't have it but am wondering if it goes away if someone eats less sugar.

Diabetes is not always caused by diet, just like cancer is not always caused by smoking. So the answer to your question depends on the type of diabetes you happen to have. Most people that are diagnosed can manage the condition with proper medication and diet and exercise. However someone with insulin dependent diabetes (their body is not producing insulin) cannot reverse the condition.

Yes, if you really watch your diet and get plenty of exercise, you can get to the point where your doctor can take you off your meds. But if you slip up, it comes back

It does not reverse itself in that there is no cure, BUT you can often control it by exercize and diet (not just sugar, but carbs. Sugar is a carb, but not all carbs are sugar).

Diabetes is not caused by eating sugary foods so it does not go away if you stop.

Diabetes is due to either your body not making enough insulin to handle the sugar that is in your blood or the insulin is not working well.

A healthy diet, exercise, and medication will control it.

I'm going to go on the assumption that you're talking about type 2 diabetes.

GeeGee is exactly correct. If you exercise religiously and watch what you eat, you may be able to keep your blood sugars in the range of a normal person. But as soon as you quit the diet and exercise it will come back immediately. So it's not a cure.
