Pancreatic cancer....do you know anyone personally?!

Question: who has had it? If so.........
1. What were the symptoms of this person (I know you don't always see or feel them).
2. After diagnosis, how long did they live?
I know for a fact that it is one of the most deadly of cancers that is not curable............
3. Do you know a "survivor" of pancreatic cancer?? I doubt it though............
How can we explain to the world that Patrick Swayze smoking a cigarette isn't going to make him better? It's not going to make him worse OR better -- one way or the other.....
I WORK IN A HOSPITAL - THE PROGNOSIS IS NOT GOOD.
We all know this...........
so back to the questions above...........

so back to the questions above...........

My granddad, was told he had it last Sunday (9 days ago).
He thought he had a kidney stone and went to the ER, his symptom was just abdominal and back pain.
He is expected to pass on any minute now. We thought he was going on Sat but he is hanging on for some reason. He walked into the hospital but had to be brought home by ambulance. Right now he is in a DEEP Sleep, not eating or responding, yesterday he was in a state where he was reliving his past.
I personally dont have an opinion about Swayze now

My mother in law was diagnosed in February, when she was treated for a bowel obstruction. The Dr phoned us after the surgery & told us the had a tumor on the pancreas, and that it was solidly attached & inoperable.
When she saw the Oncologist earlier this month, her Dr told her the prognosis is afew months.
Her symptoms were abdominal pain, nausea, and weight loss. She is a very tiny woman ( 4'8" and is down to 67 pounds? So, no chemo, as she's too frail.
We are in the process of getting her into a hospice.
And your right about Patrick Swayze. Who cares if he's smoking. He is going to die anyways, whether he smokes or not.
And no. I have never heard of any survivors from this type of cancer

my best friends father, I've known the man since I was about 8 years old, he was a school custodian everyone loved Mr. B was diagnosed 2 months before he died. my own father died from bone cancer 3 weeks after diagnosis

My uncle had it and survived b/c he had caught it so early!
1. There were no symptoms, he was going for a routine checkup when they found it.
2. He had survived and went on with his normal life.
it was more or less a miracle.

my dad is diagnosed, you will have lower abdombanal pain, the docter said he should die in about a week

I am a cancer nurse. I have only once met a pancreatic cancer survivor. She was 13 years cancer free. You are right, it is a very deadly cancer, but if caught early enough it can be cured. However, it has to be caught really really early. If caught soon enough a surgery called a Whipple can be done to try to remove it. Also, chemo and radiation can slow the cancer down. Early symptoms are usually a feeling of fullness, loss of appetite, nausea, bloating and weight loss. They are pretty vague symptoms and people would rarely report them to a doctor right away. People generally live about 3 months to 2 years with pancreatic cancer depending on what stage it is when it is found and if and where it has spread. It is not hopeless though and people should quit smoking! It gives them at least a fighting chance!
