You can usually set your meter for either mmol/l or mg/dl - take it back to where you got it if you can't work it out from the instructions - you usually press and hold the on button to enter setup, and move through the options untill you get to this choice. In mmol/l, a hypo is below 4 - normal for someone without diabetes is about 4 - 7.5 - 13.9 is a bit high. Hope that helps! xxx

which type of diabetes do you have and what is the make of your blood glucose meter?

mine reads in mmol.l so i understand that your reading is a little high, i have been advised to try and keep my sugars between 5 and 10. however as far as i am aware the same reading on your old meter would have been 139, dont hold me to that though!

Anything between 5.0 and 7.0 is good. I would not recommend an insulin shot unless your lever is 18.0 or higher. If in any doubt test the blood of 2 non-diabetic 2 get an idea of what to aim for. I hope this helps

Under 8 mmol.l is what I have to achieve. I am mild type 2 diabetic.

The BGL meter can be swapped over to read in the same units as your old meter.

I have never been above 11.5 !!!!

Should be between about 4 and 7 before meals, less than 10 90mins after a meal and around 8 at bedtime. Depends when you do the test. One test isn't anything to worry about, it's a general picture that's important. Just have a word with your GP or diabetic nurse, they'll set you straight.

'mmol/l' is the scale used to give you the figure so don't worry. on your last meter, the number you got would have been in that 'scale'. Make sure. however that you have calibrated your new meter. This should have been explained on your instruction. The ones we use in our ambulance service have to be re-calibrated with each new packet of strips for instance. Perhaps yours does not use strips but Just check that you whether you have to first callibrate

No it is not ok. It is equelent to 13.9x18 = 250.2 mg%. Ideally it should be between 4.4 and6,6 mmol/l in your machine(FBS)

That's the type of measurement they prefer to use in Europe. We do mg/dL in the states. Look in the manual, there should be a page on how to toggle back and forth between the two types of measurement.

Check your sugar level again by the new glucometer you have purchased.

13.9mmol/l is a high reading and you have not mentioned whetther its fasting or random value.

Either fasting or random its too high you have to immediately consult your doctor for the consultation if your another reading also comes close to the first one.

You should be able to switch it to mg/dl
