I've just found out that i might have diabetes please help.?!

Question: I just come from my doctors as I have been having symptoms of diabetes being very thirsty and urinating alot, I had gestational diabetes when Iwas pregnant but it went away. But now its been 9 months since I had my son and the nurse checked my suger levels and it read 24.4 I know this is high but I have hardly eaten anything today and I have to go to the hospital tomorrow for a blood test I don't know what category I am type 1 or 2 but the nurse said with that reading it is probably type 1. I'm really scared as that means i'll have it for the rest of my life it wasn't so bad when I was pregnant as I knew it would go away. But now it won't and I eat healthly all the time, and I'm not over weight in fact I've lost weight i'm now 9 stone. Can you lead a normal life with this without worrying what you can and can't eat please help need advice!!! thankyou.

It is a shock when you are told you have diabetes, I know because I have it and most of my patients have it. Please don't panic. there is a lot of help out there. If you are type 1 you will most likely need insulin, whatever is prescribed for you, you will most likely feel better taking it than you do now. Keep your family involved and informed of your condition and treatment. You may be referred to a specialist diabetes nurse or a diabetes centre where there are people specialised in the care and will be able to give you lots of advice how to live a normal life. You are normal, please don't think you are not, you just have a medical condition that needs care, accept all the advice and help available and I am sure you will have a long and happy life, my best wishes to you.

Sorry, but over 65% of women that get gestational diabetes, get type 2 later in life. Keep checking your blood, watch the diet. Keep checking with the doctor and get exercise. It's not the end of the world. There are lots of us out here and we do good!!!

Stop worrying there are several millions of people living in the UK with diabetes. They all live a normal life if they follow their diet and medical regime. Most important is not to stop eating healthy foods. And don't worry you will be OK.

im sorry.
i wish you the best luck

You can still lead a normal life with diabetes. It's good that you've got a healthy diet already, as this is important in keeping your blood sugar under control. You'll not be able to eat many sugary foods any more, but it'll reduce your chances of developing complications if you exercise regularly and are a healthy weight.
If you have type 1 diabetes, you'll need to have injections of insulin every day; type 2, you'll take pills instead. At first you'll need to monitor your blood sugar levels closely to be sure it's at the right level, but soon you'll get to know how your body works and be able to judge when it's wrong.
Try not to worry. Your doctors should be able to give you lots of advice and support.

Hopefully it's not diabetes. But if it is don't worry your life isn't over. First of all you need to accept that you are a diabetic. When my dad was first diagnosed he went into denial and almost died! But now he is healthy and has no problems. He exercises more and watches what he eats other than that he is the same happy go lucky person he's always been. Of course you will need to make some lifestyle changes. So hang in there you'll be ok

Chances of getting 2 type diabetes are greater.

Dont worry as worrying will have a negative impact on the blood glucose levels.
