Chantix to Stop Smoking???!

Question: Has anyone here taken Chantix to stop smoking?

Did you have nightmares? I have such vivid dreams anyway that I'm scared to death of what is going to happen. I'm starting my rx tomorrow.

I've been smoking about a pack a day since I was 18 - I'm 38. I don't want emphysema when I get old, but I don't really want to quit either! :(

Please send a prayer up to your higher power for me!

Actually taking drug to stop smoking is not a best way! Just stop smoking with your strength!!

I think I could have quit smoking with Chantix. I took it for a week and was down to about four cigarettes a day within two days. I wasn't a heavy smoker anyway but it was great to not have the desire or craving. During this time, I was becoming really depressed. After about five days, I lost the medicine. I found it a week later. I started taking it again Monday morning. Today is Wednesday and after struggling with sleep last night, I woke up this morning trying to find a reason to get out of bed. I'm severely depressed and have struggled today with thoughts of suicide. In the early 90's, I was diagnosed as a major depressant. I have not had any episodes since 1999. I'm not taking other meds so I have to believe this medicine has effected my chemistry. I'd rather have the cigarette habit. I have a friend who took Chantix. It worked for her and she's smoke free, three months. I would recommend this to someone who has never had a chemical embalance. Otherwise, I wouldn't recommend taking the risk. Teresa Lemond

chantix is awesome!!!!!!! works when u start the first pill! you simply dont crave them. its awesome....im on it and have a sister who smoked for 20 years quit taking it. takes time but its awesome!

ok, so my step dad started this and it worked pretty well.. but he still got those nicotine headaches and stuff. He said that he would get pretty messed up dreams, not that that means scary. but usually when you try something new you get wacked up dreams. kinda like eating or watching tv before bed.

BEST OF LUCK TO YOU!!! ??

I used Chantix and I am smoke free now 90 days. It did give me some wierd dreams but nothing to wild. It was by no means like a LSD trip. I did succede and though I crave it once in a while I feel tons better. My skin is clearing, My sexual drive is up and all foods tast so much beter.
Try it, and keep up with the support website.

I have been stopped nearly a year now and i did on nicorette chewing gum. First the full strenght for six months which began to make me ill then the low strenght which are now starting to make me feel ill. Idon't want a cigerette though.
Make sure if you do try them, get the fresh mint ones. They taste just like chewing gum.

I have a friend who took it and it worked pretty well. I think she had some similar issues with it as well though. But unfortunately, most medications have side effects. Obviously, smoking has it's own - which include death.

I really hope you can quit. My father died from emphysema at 53... same week as 9/11, and 6 months before I got married. That was very hard to deal with. If you have a spouse or kids, think about them too.

It was a TERRIBLE way to die. Slowly drowning to death. He had to go to ICU several times, and each time, they had all these tubes going into his lungs and stomach - pumping out this black, nasty stuff.

Do what you need to do to quit smoking. You'll be glad later on. I know the side effects from Chantix, and dealing with withdrawls is hard, but I'm sure you'd rather that and live longer and healthier and be there for family and friends - than to die younger and in a terrible way such as emphysema.

Definitely praying for you!

Chantix worked for me and it didn't give me nightmares. I was up to two packs of Marborlo Reds a-day when Chantix helped me quit. It did "stop me up" so to speak. I had to stop taking it a little early because it couldn't have a BM. It does work, no dreams like the patch gave me, and hopefully you will kick the habit without being full-of-sh!!. Sorry, had to inject some humor!

P.S. I have been smoke free since last May 15th!!

I have smoked to 20 yrs 2 packs a day and have been on Chantix for 3 weeks now. After starting the first day I went down to about 4 smokes a day and now I dont even crave them.

I do have vivid dreams but they are not bad enough to make me stop taking it and possibly start smoking again. I too fight depression and anxiety and I have not seen any change in that.

All meds effect people differently and the best thing to do is give it a try. If the side effects are more than your willing to deal with then you can stop it.

Good luck
