Can someone answer my questions?!

Question: Okay, I'm going to see a doctor hopefully next week (their computers are having trouble setting up appointments so its walk ins for a while). I think I might have IBS, Irritable Bowel Syndrome. I've read it can be caused by stress, diet, and a few other things. There hasn't been much lately I CAN eat that doesn't give me gas and cramps (and if its really bad... diarrhea). Plus I've been under a lot of stress in my personal life and these specific problems won't just "blow over" anytime soon...
1a. What medications do they use to treat this? I'd prefer not having to run for pills when I'm already in pain and stuck to the toilet.
1b. Will the medication interfere with birth control and if I stop it when I want kids will coming down from taking it for a while be hard?
2. Since I'm only 18 will my doctor even take my claim seriously? I don't know if this is an age specific disease but I've been having problems like this on and off for over a year.
3. Does anyone else have this?

The reason people are not answering your questions, is because they are for a doctor to answer, not the general public. But your doctor WILL take you serious. That is his job to. You probably need to change your diet and start excercising. That will solve alot of it and the doctor will tell you the same thing. Good luck and take care of yourself because no one else will do it for you!

IBS is constant bouts of constipation and diarrhea with adominal cramping. You can get it at your age. I'm sure if you told your doc how u are feeling they will take you seriously. Before you see your doc try relaxation techniques i.e yoga. If there is alot of stress in your life, try and reduce it. If you tell your doctor your on the pill he can discuss with you what the best medication for you would be. It could be a food intolerance thats causing your symptoms, but make sure you see a doc soon to get assessed. Good luck x

My Mom has IBS and she uses bulk fiber therapy, per her doctor.
She uses "Citrucel", "Benefiber", "Metamucil", etc..... and it really helps her.
