Is herpes in the blood?!


Question: iv been told by my gp that herpes is not in the blood & cant be found through blood tests. been reading up on herpes & in some cases they have said they have been tested positive. im so confussed. can u tell by a blood test?

The blood test tests for Herpes antibodies. That is why it takes a few weeks after exposure before the test will actually come back positive. Herpes can be in the blood stream for a brief time during the initial infection (which is why it is the most dangerous time to get Herpes - when you are pregnant). However, it resides in your nerve endings, not in the blood stream. That is why the Red Cross allows people who have Herpes to give blood.

You break out in the same area of the initial infection, and you can unwittingly spread the infection. Be careful you don
