Crohns Disease & Constipation?!

Question: Hi,

I have Crohns, have had for about 4 years I have been on various treatments and have recently had a week in hospital for IV Steroids.

I take Azeothiroprine, Prednisalone, Imoxifen, Calchichew, and pain killers.

I have stopped taking pain killers as they can cause constipation so havent taken any in about 3 weeks!

At the moment I am suffing from severe constipation, usually I am loose and go to the loo about 4 - 10 times a day - I have not been since Saturday! this is most unlike me! I have taken 6 sachets of Movicol (from my GP) I have had this on and off for a while but keep being told that it is unrelated to my Crohns.

The Movicol have not had an effect! I feel as if I am desperate to go to the loo but just can't shift anything, it is really uncomfortable! I can't eat, can't sit and feel totally rubbish!

Anybody got any ideas?????

This question seems like one better asked at and answered at one of the many Crohns Disease sufferer support specific forums- as the likely hood of sound advice germane to your condition would probably be greater.

Here's one I found through google (requires registration )
http://www.crohnsforum.com/

Good general advice though would be to avoid harsh over the counter laxatives (unless absolutely necessary), drink plenty of water and try and be as active (walking, house work ect) as you possibly can .

Also a tablespoon of olive oil may get things moving .

If your situation doesn't improve make an appointment with your gp.

good luck!

I really sympathize with you suffering with chrohns. There is not a great deal you can do to make it comfortable .A friend of mine is a sufferer and she always says it is like a stomache full of blisters feeling when she is sitting down.So uncomfortable she says.I really hope they find a cure for you people who suffer with it.

Poor you! Can't offer any advice-just sympathy. Haven't you got a specialist you can get in touch with over this?
GP's don't know enough.Phone up the hospital and ask to talk to the consultants secretary.
