Dry skin is one of the joys of being hypothyroid. I say that tongue-in-cheek because I too am hypothyroid. I had a total thryoidectomy almost two months ago and have been dealing with going hypothyroid while I wait for my thyroid medication to kick in. One the problems I've had is dry skin. One of the things I find that helps the most is coconut oil. You can find it in most health food stores and some grocery stores now. It comes in a soild form but melts to the touch. Use a little bit on your feet and cover them with a sock to soak in overnight. It does work wonders on dry skin-even cracked feet. The added benefit is that coconut oil helps with metabolism which is something all people hypothyroidism have in common-slow metabolism. I actually use coconut oil all over my body and have the softest skin now.

You should be checked for diabetes as well as hypothyroidism; this is a common symptom, especially if you have been losing weight as well, or experiencing increased thirst or urination.

Well....as the other person suggested it wouldn't hurt to be checked for Diabetes as well. Just to rule it out.

Thyroid problems actually cause your skin to be a little bit more dry, therefore opening the door for other problems to appear. I would say that if you have tried everything on your feet and the dry, peeling skin and callous is still there, you may have what they call a Tinea Pedis (foot fungus) It happens when there are micro lesions on your feet that allow the fungus to get into your skin.
Feet are in the perfect breeding grounds when they are in shoes, damp, dark and dirty.....The only way that you can take care of your heels, is to use something that is made specifically for the Tinea Pedis.
I know of a fantastic product, it is called Footlogix, and has 10% urea, which helps to moisturise the skin and 1% Clotrimazole which will take care of fungus. It is an awesome product. My feet cleared up in just a little while. You can go to Footlogix.com and that will tell you where to get it.
