MRSA Question: Has anyone experience having wound debridement for MRSA?!

Question: My son has MRSA (he got at the gym) and has been treated for two weeks with antibiotics. He will be going to see a doctor regarding wound debridement. What does this entail and how much longer before he is completely healed after this procedure.

That will depend on where it is, and how bad/deep it is. It will most likely be done in the o.r. after an evaluation in the doctor's office, but again, you don't say where it is.

Know that it is VERY contagious...all it needs is a tiny opening in the skin, to get in. He could get it somewhere else in his body, or someone in the family can pick it up. Keep Lysol ready all the time.
He should NOT TOUCH it.....and wash his hands frequently.

Our experience with MRSA is that usually gets better when you expose it to air. Opening it up is good. Give it about two weeks depending on the size of the wound.

Debridement is just a cleaning procedure.
The antibiotics aid in healing by giving the body support to fight off the infection.
The course of the MRSA is about two weeks to a month in some patients.
