This is called hyperkalemia and it can be bad. Potassium is an electrolyte use for nerve conduction. Arrhythmias are a possible complication which can lead to sudden cardiac death. They use high levels of potassium to kill people on death row because it causes the heart to stop beating. Tests need to be run so the cause can be identified and corrected. Possible causes are renal problems, endocrine abnormalities and excessive intake to name a few. Note most substitute salts have potassium so have her not use them. Just keep up her doctor appointments and they will find the underlying problem. Good Luck.

High potassium is BAD BAD BAD! I used to wake up at night and I couldnt breathe. I thought I was going to die. It was like my chest wasnt going up and down. I had tests done and my crackpot doctor said i was fine and said i was having Panick attacks. I knew i wasnt. I went like this for a couple years getting worse. I switched doctors and the new guy did tests and told me my potassium was high and to stop eating bananas. He said that my body seemed to hold onto potassium and not get rid of it. So i stopped eating bananas and cut down on potatios and all of a sudden I was fine. I decided to snoop into my doctors file and i saw my old doctors stuff on me and noticed that in the file was a test result of my potassium being triple what it should and it was circled by the lab and said it was at danger level. I was chocked!

SO be careful. Potatoes bananas things are fine but if your body has a hard time eliminating the potassium, it can be fatal. Make sure your doctor doesnt flick your concern away either.
