Can seeing a chiropractor heal an ear infection / sore throat?!

Question: My sister has this five year old boy, and she is against medicine... He hasn't even been vaccinated in his entire life. Right now, he has an ear infection that is so bad, that its draining liquid out if his ears. (and he does not have tubes) and he also has a sore throat, fever, cold sweats... all lasting for over a week. He hasn't really eaten either since all this started. She's convinced seeing a chiropractor will "cure" him of all his sicknesses, and refuses to give him antibiotics. She took him to the doctor twice, each time, they prescribed him antibiotics but she refuses to give them to him. I asked why bring him to the doctor, if she isn't going to listen to what they are telling her and take their advice.. especially twice! I think she's neglecting her son, she thinks I'm out of line and the chiropractor is all her son needs. What do you think?

Convince your sister to give her child antibiotics. Adjusting bones will not cure an infection.

If she refuses, then you might want to consider getting child services or some other welfare agency involved. Sometimes you have to be cruel to be kind. In this cause 5 to 7 days of antibiotics would have the child running around with a smile on his face again.

Hate to say it, but it sounds like she is neglectful. I know people have a right to refuse medical treatment, but to refuse for a child, not sure, that might be a grey area. Can you sneak the child to the doctor?

Ear infections rarely get better on their own, they can cause infinitely more problems (such as death) if not dealt with.

I agree with you. That definitely sounds neglectful to me. I have no idea how a chiropractor could help him.

It sounds like he would benefit from some antibiotics. That said, the body does have a remarkable ability to heal itself. I hope she is seeing a good chiropractor - ie, someone who understands their own abilities and limitations, who will refer her to a doctor when needed.
I won't comment on vaccination, don't want this discussion to get bogged down in the fors and againsts.
