My sugar level is 5.51 nmo/L or 100.10 mgdl - is it normal?!

Question: Or should I avoid eating sugar now?

Thanks!

It is well within the realms of 'normal' for a non-diabetic. I have absolutely no idea where the_only_solorose gets the idea that it's at the high end of normal from.

Anywhere between 4 and 7 mmol/l (72 and 126 mg/dL) is considered non-diabetic in the UK. What you must, however, bear in mind is that this may well be a 'one off' test. To be absolutely sure, your doctor would need to carry out a fasting plasma blood glucose test, which means you would not have eaten from the previous night, and maybe even a glucose tolerance test too.

If you are concerned at all, or you are exhibiting a combination of any of the following symptoms, you should go see your GP (doctor) for clarification.

Increased thirst (polydipsia); increased urination (polyuria); increased hunger (polyphagia); slow healing wounds; visual disturbances (mainly blurred vision); unexpected loss of weight; recurrent fungal infections (you may notice this as itchiness of the groin); increased lethargy/tiredness.

Remember, you need to be exhibiting several of these symptoms, not just one.

Best of luck.

it's normal

omg ur going to die ur sugar lvl should be 1.0 nmol

jk

it's on the high end of normal. It's always a good idea to observe portion control when it comes to simple carbs.

Sounds normal to me, was it taken fasting or after a meal?

Your question has no context. Are you diabetic? Did you eat just before you measured? or after? etc.

I dont know when you tested your blood sugar, fasting , random or after meal.

Fasting upto 110 m/dl
random upto 130
Aftermeals 140

Diabetes is not caused by sugar.

Avoiding sugar/ sugary items is better to delay the risk of diabetes.

120 is the highest it should be for a fasting blood sugar, so this is definitely a normal, fine blood sugar reading.

100 mg/dl is basically perfect

Apparently this is a finger prick reading which only a spot reading that is only good at the time you took the sample. Its a good normal reading on the high side. But, there is very little you can tell from one reading. You did not mention when you took the sample, how soon after eating.

Visit my blog site and study the Glucose Levels table to understand relationship between a HbA1C test (fasting test) which tells you the Blood Glucose levels over the last 90 days and the daily blood glucose finger prick level.

Best Wishes

Normal fasting glucose is between 3.9 and 5.5.

5.5 is at the high end for a fasting glucose.

You could be prediabetic if you get readings any higher than that for a fasting blood glucose.

Has your doctor done a glucose tolerance test or an HbA1c yet? It might be a good idea at your next checkup.

It would probably be a good idea to avoid sugar, sweets, candy and too many starchy foods too.

Look into the South Beach Diet, its low carb, which can help get your blood sugar down a bit. Exercise can help too. Talk to your doctor about ways you can avoid developing diabetes, such as losing a bit of weight, exercising, cutting back on carbs, etc.
