What are these little red bumps everywhere?!

Question: My wife recently started getting little red bumps on her skin that resemble really small hives. Not long after, I started getting them. Just not as bad. They itch like crazy and they won't go away. I've looked on the net for pics but haven't found any that look like the bumps WE now have. It's not a STD and as far as I know it's not an allergic reaction. I have a two year old son that hasn't got even a sign of the bumps. They dry up(though they are not really "juicy" so to speak) in one spot (such as the trunk of the body) and then pop up somewhere else (like the legs). I've put pictures on my 360 page to get a more detailed answer from someone. Thank you for your help. http://360.yahoo.com/profile-t4oIgBkwaas...

It's probably not shingles -- shingles is a re-infection/re-activation of the chicken pox virus (varicella zoster), usually experienced in later life. It typically causes more pain than itching.

I also doubt it's scabies -- scabies is a mite that typically prefers to infest the skin in the areas where there are skin "folds", like the wrists, elbow creases, and the like, and it causes clear, fluid-filled blisters which usually burst when scratched -- and the itching is usually more severe at night. A severe infestation with scabies might cause this kind of rash, but that would be unusual.

The fact that is has spread from your wife to you does indicate that it is "infectious" or that it is a bug infestation of some sort. You need to be examined by a dermatologist to determine the cause, since because it does spread, it could infect/infest your 2-year-old next.

If they really hurt, my best guess would be shingles.

This is not shingles because it is too widespread and shingles is a virus that causes problems within the distribution of a sensory nerve (dermatome).

These look like bites to me and not an allergy (although this is my number two guess) and my leading guess is scabies. Don't freak. This is common and can easily be treated. You will need to be seen to confirm this and the medication requires a prescrption.

Bedbugs have also made a comeback, and this is even easier to treat since they go away on their own as long as you eliminate the bedbugs.
