Low Blood Sugar Trouble...?!

Question: I am on a 1300-1500 calorie diet for weight loss for a beach body :> However, in the middle of the night I keep having 1 or 2 lows, which adds up candy QUICKLY. This leaves only about 700 calories for me to eat a day! I am a person who can't stand not eating, so obviously this sucks butt. My doctor refuses to do drastic changes to my basal rates (I have a pump) so the lows are probably going to continue for a couple weeks... any suggestions?

Have you tried glucose tablets? They are like candies but with very little calories. 1- 2 tablets can bring you a point with less than 10 calories. Here are a couple of site you can check: www.medshopexpress.com/332882.html and http://www.diabetesnet.com/diabetes_cont...
Stay healthy. Peace!

Prior to going to bed eat something such as an orange, or any other food that you like that typically keeps your sugar up. Doing this prior to sleeping should help with keeping your sugar up throughout the night.
Also, candy is a quick temporary fix. If you find yourself needing to eat a lot candy throughout the night, you may want to rethink what's going on or what you're eating. While you might need one or two pieces of candy to quickly bring your sugar up, you should eat something with a little more substance that will keep your sugar up in the long run, not just momentarily.
You must also remember that while you're sleeping, that's the longest period of time in which your body is not eating. While being awake throughout the day, your body is on an eating schedule multiple times, but while you're sleeping, it's not eating for 8hours or so, so it might be necessary to eat a snack in the middle of the night.
Lastly, are you diabetic? and if so IDDM or NIDDM? It might be necessary to check with your doctor if something such as an pump might be necessary to keep your sugar at an appropriate level at all times.

keep OJ on hand in the fridge. also, when i've had sugar crashes, what helps me are strawberries, and glucose tabs. you can get glucose tabs at walgreens or any drug store or pharmacy. they also have something called gluco-burst that supposed to help.
OR...cake mate decorating frosting/icing. you squirt the tube under your tongue where it's absorbed more quickly...or into the inside of your cheeks.

spread your meals out throught the day.

Well it sounds like you care on how your future will be by being able to find answers to your Diabetic Procedure. I suggest if you are taking a snack before bed time eat something that will last through the night and not be consumed at midnight. If you are taking R Insulin before bedtime to control your Blood Sugar levels try and control overeating in the afternoon, Called Dinner. Get with your Doctor or Caregiver before changing any Diabetic Procedure or Regiment. What you might be Experiencing is called the Diabetic Ghost Effect. This ocurrs when taking R Insulin before bedtime to try and get Blood Sugars to level out before Morning. A snack is required if taking R Insulin at night. You must be put on a Sliding Scale which only your Doctor or Caregiver can arrange. Your Total Calorie intake is Low so have it adjusted to fit your needs. Remember to record every aspect of your Diabetic Life so your Doctor knows what is going on. Good Luck and May God Bless.
