I've been on bp meds for about 12yrs. If I lose another 10lbs my Dr may take me off. I'm 57 and lost 16lbs so far. I regularly eat the turkey brats, fish or chicken and veggies for supper. I've been doing push-ups to build my core strength. I started 2nd week of Jan. I usually do 135-150 push-ups per day. 15X3sets for 1st break, then lunch, then afternoon break. Then I may do as many in 1set as possible before bed. I have cottage cheese/pears, turk sandwich, 1/2 at 1st break and 1/2 on afternoon break, apple, fiber bar, maybe pickles and olives. I have 1/2 pb&honey on toast when I get home before a 1 hour bike ride on my spinner bike. My endurance is really getting better and many younger guys are amazed at my strength. I may not stick to my diet 1 day a week. I like to snack on almonds or pistacios.

brisk walking 30 minutes a day helps. start slow and short then gradually increase your speed and duration as your body adjusts.

I had high bp too but my dr put me on meds already and said if I lose weight I can go off of it, unfortunately losing weight is hard,,,i haven't lost any yet, but I have heard weight watchers is the best!

Did you doctor explain the dash diet to you? It has been proven to lower bp within 14 days. So it may be worth a try.

Grains- 8 servings at least 3 whole grain foods a day
Fruits 4-5 servings a day
Veggies 4-5 servings a day
Lowfat dairy- 2-3 servings a day
Lean meat, fish and poultry- 2 or less a day
nuts, seeds, and legumes- 4-5 per week
fats and sweets- limited amounts

I hope this helps you and as the first answer stated if you can get out and walk each day for 30 minutes that would help alot.
GOOD LUCK.....

Lots of exercise (e.g. walking, swimming), and get rid of all junk food and processed foods. More protein, less carbs (unless it's from vegetables).
