Im coughing up blood now?!

Question: Ok, I just want an educated answer. I dont have insurance so I really dont want to go to the dr. unless I deffinatly have to. I have been coughing up phlem for as long as I can remember. I dont smoke, though I used to years ago. I do have asthma, but I use my inhaler when needed. Today, instead of the normal phlem, I have started coughing up blood. It is bright red blood, so its not old. It hasnt been too much, just about 3-4 times so far. Anyone know what this could be, or if its serious enough to go to the emergency room? Mind you, I have no insurance. I'm not in any pain what so ever. Any ideas? Serious answers only please. Thanks.

You could have a tear in your esophagus. If you cough a lot, or forcefully, you can create tiny tears. If its a little bit of blood each time, it might be tiny tears. If its a lot of blood, its probably something more serious and you should get it checked.

Most hospitals have a payment plan, and some will even write off your bill if you make below a certain amount of money.

If you think its serious, then you should get checked out just to be sure.

it could be your spleen, you may have ruptured it? which is bad because its the organ that protects you from infection.

my advice go straight to the doctor

when you cough up blood it means that theres something seriously not right inside you,

get better soon

If you have a temperature it could be a serious infection in your lungs!! I had caught and infection a year ago and had the same symptoms, I had to be admitted to hospital for weeks and have never been right since, I would suggest you get medical advise soon as possible!! Take care Jean............

It could be something serious, I think you must get it checked out especially if your breathing is bad.

I am not a doctor or medical professional, however, I know a few things about medical issues and your symptoms sound serious enough to go to an emergency room. If not too far away, I would suggest you go to a university-related hospital. The doctors and staff often are better. If you can avoid taking an ambulance-that will save you a lot of money.

When you see a doctor see one who specializes in lungs--a pulmonologist . Doctors can be expensive but I know they will let you pay for the cost in increments. Just tell the doctor you don't have insurance. This is also true with hospitals. Hospitals cannot reject anyone because they don't have insurance or are unable to pay. It's against the law.

Also, If you are in the USA, you may qualify for Medicare and/or Medicaid. Check with your state.

Best of luck to you.
