My tattoo artist not only slathers me with it while he's tattooing, but I go through TUBES of it while I'm healing. It moisturizes the tat, keeping the scabs from getting dry and also keeps down the itching associated with healing skin. If it's moist and doesn't itch, you won't pick at the scabs, thus decreasing the likelihood of splotching or spotting. I LOVE A & D OINTMENT!
