Question: I dont know what it is, because I've just read it on facebook. But I have a major major phobia of germs, hand sanitizer is oit for me, because I ruined my hands using it so my friends and family have sort of banned me from using it. Im so scared. What do I do?

Hand sanitizers are great and all for bacteria. Your talking about a virus. You need to avoid close personal space with "infected" people flus/cold are spread via respiratory droplets mainly. So if your smelling their breath, eh, you can get what they have.

But I wouldn't be too concerned with getting a simple virus from everyday life. Now if your Immunocompromised (AIDS, Chemo treatments) then by all means avoid. Though normal healthy immune systems are up to and need the challenges to put it to work so your next flu doesn't end up killing you.

If your the kind of person that gets banned from sanitizers... you might need to seek help from a doctor.

I don't know if this will help but. Have any of your friends died from this "virus"? If the answer if yes then yeah be concerned. If not but they spend a little bit longer on the toilet don't worry about it, just avoid sharing things with others for a while till the spread runs its course.

The flu is running amuck here in N.Y.

Just wash your hands every few hours and don't touch your face or put your fingers in your mouth or eyes without having washed them first. That will help, but you still never know. I work in a hospital and I'm around people infected with all kinds of viruses and I get paranoid too. I use a lot of hand sanitizer though. I don't care if it ruins my hands. I never touch my face and eat without washing first and still I got three viruses this year. It's kind of hard to avoid.
