My six-year-old son mananged to get head lice. Is it possible for me to not get !

Question: He complained to me about a week ago that his head was itchy, but he generally complains about everything no matter how big or how small the issue is. I put him in the bath tub and shampooed his hair for him and rinsed it thoroughly.

On Saturday (three baths later), he complained again about his itching head. I was so sick of hearing about it that I pulled him out into the kitchen so I could look at his head under the light. There were a few lice bugs crawling around on his head, and I found several nits attached to his hair. We checked our other son (they share a bedroom) and found that he had a few nits in his hair as well. We bought the lice shampoo and treated both of them and have been watching them closely since then. They seem to be clear.

I am so afraid that I have it. I've been checked and told I don't, but I can't stop worrying about it. What if my husband isn't checking thoroughly? Is it possible for both of the boys to have it without me or my husband getting it?

Yes it is possible for your children to have it and not you. My girls have all had it, they all have long hair and I did at the time. I didn't have it. THey crawl, they do not jump or fly as some will tell you they do. It sounds like you did the necessary to rid of it. The only other thing I would recommend is also vacuuming their mattresses and boil your hair brushes. ALso wash in hot water any hair accessories you may use to prevent any occurences. It is so normal to think you have and even scratch your head sub-conciously. I hate Lice, it is such a pain to get rid of but following all the necessary steps works to get rid of it. Oh, another thing to do is bag up any stuffed animals they may have in a garbage bag for 2 weeks and as someone else said buy the spray for the interior of your car and you couch/loveseats. I would recheck in a week and at two weeks just to make sure any nits that were possibly missed haven't hatched and reinfested. Good Luck!

It's really nothing to worry about because it's treatable. Lice DO NOT like hair products. You and your son should start using mousse or hairspray. Nightly treatment and washing your sheet in hot water will help also. I would probably just buy a new pillow case to be safe.

get you a new weave gurl, you gots it.

There is a spray you can spray on your furniature to kill the lice, and also spray your car seats and headrest.

Well, if you are really freaked out about you and you sons getting lice then shave your son's head. But if you don't want to do that, there is lice shampoo at the local supermarkets. But if you do that and it doesn't help then you could go to your doctor and ask for some lice cure shampoo!!! Give it to everyone in the house and the problem shold go away!!=]=]

Best of Luck=]=]

Yes, it is possible that you will not catch it. Lice crawl and DO NOT JUMP. Do not share the same hairbrush. Do you have a close friend who is a nurse, beutician, doctor who knows what they look like or show your husband in your kids hair what to look for. Treat your hair when you treat your kids hair. Call all the people your kids came in contact with and you must call the school. The kids in your kids class need to be checked. The babysitter also needs to know.
