Swollen eyelids due to allergic reaction to acne medication?!

Question: I tried Proactiv for the first time yesterday and I believe my face reacted to the proxide benzoyl. I woke up with swollen eyes and i dunno what to do to get rid of it before tomorrow morning. What should I use? The pharmacist told me Benadryl but does it really work?

Benadryl should get rid of the initial swelling. Just be wary of Benadryl, it is fast acting and it doesn't last as long. Also you will have to take benadryl 4 times a day until your body stops reacting to whatever you are allergic to. Before you wash take the benadryl, I suggest you wash your face and see if the swelling and redness subsides.

Also benadryl is a first generation anti-histamine therefore will cause drowyness (sleepness) and urinary retention. I also suggest you stop using the proactiv or any acne products that contain benzoyl peroxide. There is a possibility you not allergic to benzoyl peroxide but the non-medical ingredients in th product as well.

Benadryl is as good as anything. You can take 50 mg rather than 25 but it might make you sleepy. Be sure you have scrubbed off all the offending material.
