If you have cancer, could a simple blood test show it?!

Question: My girlfriend/wife had a blood test done about 2 months ago and it came back normal. About a 9 days ago she caught a cold (I believe its a cold) and had a runny nose, now the runny nose is gone but she coughs very much (spits up mucus sometimes and does not have a soar throat). The doctor took an X-ray of her chest and they found kind of like a LUMP in her lung (maybe a little bigger than a golf ball or to the worst a tennis ball size). My question is could it be a tumor (cancer) even the blood test came back normal?? She is the Love of my life and Im so stressed. Could a lump in her lung be life threateting? HAPPy Easter everybody. :-)

The specific answer to your question is that there is no blood test that would reliably indicate a primary lung cancer which is your current concern.

We don't know what blood tests she had 2 months ago - there are hundreds of blood tests that can be done - but she cannot have had a blood test for lung cancer because there isn't one.

The information is to vague at this point for us to guess what this possible abnormality may be on the chest x-ray. Follow up studies are necessary. Let's hope for the best.

not unless u have blood cancer

Yes a simple blood test can show some cancer's but not all this is experience talking

blood tests can detect some cancers (for instance prostate cancer and leukemia) but they need to be specifically tested for. usually if the cancer has metastasised (spread) then it might be picked up on a blood tests (cancer cells travel through blood to invade other body systems)

has the doctor seen the xray? you should wait and see what they say, it could be a benign lump (non-cancerous) so dont jump to conclusions.

medical technology today is well advanced, your wife has a good chance not matter what the diagnosis is.

good luck and happy easter

Could be "normal" stuff. The next step would probably be a CT scan or MRI, or a PET scan if they feel the need. This can be a normal oddity that needs to be monitored with routine x-rays. I know that telling you not to worry is like telling you to beleive the sky is green, but given her recent history of coughing and cold, this could be a big ball of nuthin...just follow up closely with x-rays and CT scans.

No.

A month before my tumour was found I had a routine blood test after going into a&e, and they found nothing.
