Diagnosed with thyroid cancer?!

Question: What are some things I will have to change in my life?

Answers: What are some things I will have to change in my life?

Like the others have said, you'll have to have surgery to have your Thyroid removed. Most likely this will be followed by Radioactive Iodine treatment, which is quite simple. You just swallow a pill and keep minimum contact with people for a few days. I was diagnosed in 11/06 and my life hasn't really changed all that much. I do of course have to take a pill everyday. I have to go for blood tests a couple of times a year and for a few years I'll have to get scans to make sure nothing is coming back. Good Luck!

You'll have to take thyroid hormones for the rest of your life.

Typically, you'll get your thyroid removed, and need to take replacement hormone every day. Depending on the kind of thyroid cancer you have, there might be something called radioactive iodine treatment as well. More info at http://www.thyca.org (thyroid cancer survivors assn.)

Once the cancer is taken care of the only change is that you will take thyroid medication every day. It is a tiny little pill like a baby aspirin. It is a wonder drug really, and changed people's lives in the 20th century. When your medication is adjusted you will feel fine. It is a med with no side effects and you should have no problems. I have been taking it for years.
