STDs and Oral Sex?!

Question: So, what diseases are transmittible to a partner through oral sex, considering that the semen was swallowed? Also, how long should one wait to get tested after an experience? Thanks!

Considering that the semen was swallowed- just about any STD then is transmittable through oral sex.

Oral sex increases the risk of infection from STDs because it involves direct contact with your mouth. The environment in your mouth provides a very good habitat for bacteria to lodge and start causing damage. Plus, any fluid entering through the mouth has a free, direct pass through to your gullet and stomach to be infused into your system. Ouch!

Even without swallowing semen or other genital discharge, remember there are still certain diseases that could be transmitted more easily than others. Herpes, hepititis, genital warts and syphillis are some examples. Oral sex, in these cases, may cause the partner to develop blisters or sores on, inside, or around the mouth area once they've had oral contact with someone infected.

Testing immediately after an experience does not prove to be very accurate. It's best to wait at least three weeks first to get tested. If this test says all clear- it would be a good idea to get another test done in another three weeks or so. Pending that these two tests are OK, I would still advise on a third test 8 weeks after the initial experience/exposure just to make sure. You see, diseases have a way of being "invisible" in the primary stages of infection- then only showing up later on.

Truthfully you should get checked right away if your nervous. I can't think of one that can't be transmitted through oral sex. If there are bodily fluids being exchanges then yes, you can get an STD.

HIV isn't a death sentence anymore, there are ways to go about it now if caught early enough to try and stop prevention. If it shows you were exposed you'd be on medication for about 6 weeks and then tested again to see if your in the clear or not. But lets hope your not even there. Just get yourself tested, they even have the at home STD kits taht you can do in the comfort of your place so go that route if you feel more comfortable.
