My 2.5 y.o. son has had a high fever since Sunday night?!

Question: My 2 1/2 y.o. son started coughing really bad all day Sunday. By bedtime he had a 103 degree fever. My wife gave him Children's Tylenol and on Monday morning he still had a high fever so he went to see his pediatrian. He has a strep throat so the doctor prescribed him a (5 day) antibiotic. He took his first (of once a day) dose yesterday along with more Childrens Tylenol, and Motrin every 5 every throughout the day. Last night he went to bed fine, his temperature was around 100.5. This morning he got up crying and his temperature is back up at 102.4! He's had a high grade fever for over 36 hours, and almost 24 hours since he took his antibiotic....should I be concerned? or does it take time for the antibiotic to kick in and start lowering the fever? I am just worried that he is too hot (fever-wise) for such a small child. He takes his next dose of antibiotics in a couple of hours. What should I do? Is this normal with strep throat? Thanks you reading

strep throat infection is one of the infections causing a very high fever. it takes the antibiotics around 48-72 hrs to control the infection. as long as there are no new symptoms noted, just continue your antibiotics and your tylenol. increase also his water intake. if the fever persists more than 72hrs from the time you started the antibiotics, better see your pediatrician again.

Yes you should be concerned. The antibotic should have helped after 24 hours. He may not be responding to it. I would take him back to the Doctors.
